It’s been longer since the last newsletter than it should have been; my apologies.
Some personal news first:
Yes, I live in the Pacific Northwest, in the region currently experiencing record flooding, but the island I live on doesn’t have any rivers big enough to flood, and our house is well above the high tide line even in the present extreme conditions, so we’re fine.
Today is our daughter’s birthday. She was out here last month for the Thanksgiving weekend, with the big holiday dinner at my sister’s house. That dinner got delayed from Thursday until Saturday, though, because my nephew had caught covid at choir practice the week before and we wanted to lower the risk he was still contagious.
Julie’s recovering from her knee replacement surgery, and can walk without a cane now. I still help her with a few things.
We’ve mailed out our annual family newsletter; the last few to go by streetmail were sent off this morning.
So there have been distractions.
As for writing, Tom Derringer & the Sinister Statue is making slow but steady progress. I think, even though it’s taken me years to write it, it may turn out the shortest Tom Derringer book yet.
I watched a Disney holiday special that kept hammering away at how magical Christmas (and Disney) is, which inspired a fantasy short story called “The Magic of the Holiday.” I’ve written the opening; don’t know if or when I’ll finish it. Despite its origin, the holiday in the story is not Christmas and nothing remotely related to Disney is involved.
Remembrance of Things to Come is still scheduled for March. I’m also still working on reprinting The Wooden Heads, by C.L. Hales.
And that’s about it. Whatever you celebrate this time of year, I hope yours is safe, warm, and joyous.
